We seem to be acclimatizing to our new surroundings, bit by bit. There is still a ways to go, but we're on our way.
This morning we didn't complete our morning routine 'til after 11:00 AM. Heidi slept late, attempting to see if she could then stay awake later into the evening hours. Lee had made a quick run to the local supermarket across the street the night before, so we stayed in for breakfast.
The only problem with our timing was that our destination for the morning, La Sue Cathedral, closed at 12:45 PM, which meant we were shooed out the door after only a very short visit to the cloister. We returned late in the afternoon, only to find a mass in progress -- which limited access to much of the main sanctuary. Not to worry: we have days and days still to come for another visit...
The remainder of the day we spent wandering around various parts of the Gothic Quarter. Lots of smart shops and colorful graffitti everywhere.
We also were entranced by Santa Maria del Pi, one of the city's oldest churches which gets shortchanged in guidebooks aside from mentions of its stunning rose window. We instead found it full of wonderful side chapels and were lucky that our visit coincided with an impromptu organ concert.
A couple of cups of coffee sipped while sitting in a sidewalk cafe in the adjacent Placa Sant Josef Oriol followed before we headed back "home" and then out to a late lunch at Cera 23. This meal, too, turned out to be a real delight: great three course fixed price lunch (with wine); a friendly, talkative and gracious waiter; and cozy atmospheric ambiance -- what more could one ask for?
We ventured out again later to return to the Cathedral, then walked La Rambla down to the waterfront. The rain promised all day then began falling in earnest, so once again we retreated to our apartment where we settled in, like two old folks tend to do, into a quiet evening "at home".
